Check Points Cabins for the Moscow and St.-Petersburg Underground
Company:
The Moscow Underground
Aim:

Develop six modifications of check-points cabins for Moscow and St.-Petersburg metro.

Realisation:

Challenged by such constraints as manufacturing and technological costs, team of Russian design research and strategy consultancy Lumiknows including industrial designers, human factors specialist and mechanical engineer began looking at ways to make the cabin an optimal object for all stakeholders: operators, assemblers, maintenance, passengers. Thus, the project began with careful in-context observations.

The methodology of research proved to be successful in other projects undertaken by Russian design research and strategy consultancy Lumiknows consisted of four stages: 1. identify all groups of stakeholders; 2. analyse user scenarios and customer needs for each category; 3. identify the main problems; 4. based on the research, create design briefs for each type of the cabins: of station-masters in metro vestibule, at escalator, of ticket office, on platform. The resulting solution minimizes manufacturing and operatonal costs, creates an exterior that is friendly - for operators and for passengers.
